A flourishing, experimental take on modern Afrobeat, the masters of the genre tweak sounds with fluttering time signatures, atypical instrumentation, M’balax playfulness and their versions of hip-hop, funk and island fun. A true cultural mixed bag, there’s several languages sung, and a small arsenal of instruments including bassoons, saxophones, horns and plenty of unexpected percussion. Though it’s an EP, the shortest song is over 5 minutes, and none of them out stay their welcome.
